ECSTATIC fans braved sunburn and blistering heat when Peter Andre rolled into town.

Around 50 people packed onto pavements to try and catch a glimpse of the pop star as he began work to restore a house in Rishton as part of his ITV show, 60 Minute Makeover.

Kitted out in blue overalls he and a crew of around 20 carpenters, plasterers and other decorators withstood highs of 28C to transform the house of an unsuspecting local woman.

The owner had been taken on a trip to Liverpool for a day after she was nominated to receive a makeover by her boyfriend.

The team had seven hours to prepare to fit new blue carpets, cabinets and put up multi-coloured wallpaper on the ground floor and main bedroom of the mid terrace property in Cliff Street.

They then had one hour to complete the bulk of the work before she returned home.

Mr Andre then posed for photos and signed autographs of fans at the end of the day.

Amy Lockhart, 22, who also lives in Cliff Street, said: “I can’t believe that he came to my street.

“You obviously never expect something like this to happen so I’m ecstatic.”

Thomas King, 16, travelled from Clayton Le Moors after hearing that the star was visiting the area on Twitter.

He said: “I’m a really big fan of his so it’s great to be able to see him face-to-face.

“I think he’s a great role model because he’s kind, down to earth and done well in his music career.”
