ALLOTMENT holders and volunteers will create a display good enough to eat at an upcoming Royal Horticultural Show.

Green-fingered community groups from across Hyndburn are to create a plot called ‘Amazing Edibles’ for the event at Tatton Park in Cheshire.

The Hyndburn Federation of Allotments is leading the project, which also includes volunteers from Hyndburn environmental charity Prospects. Individual allotment holders and other gardening and allotment groups in the area will also pitch in to help at the October event.

The completed garden is expected to include a communal orchard, pond, polytunnel and children’s interactive area.

Organisers also plan to feature raised beds and a benched seating area complete with a sail awning.

Other features will include recycled containers, plus butterfly and dragonfly planters.

The garden will also include edible flowers, herbs, spices, vegetables and fruit. Groups involved in the project include Baxenden Allotments and Gardens Society, Bootstraps and Prospects Panels from Church and Clayton-le-Moors. Other parties involved in the project include Hyndburn Council and Hyndburn Green Spaces Forum.
