A FIRE safety campaign has been launched in Nelson.

The programme aims to reduce the number of incidents in the Bradley area of the town and encourage residents to help reduce the impact and disruption those incidents cause to the community and emergency services.

Since April 2011, there have been 17 accidental house fires, six accidental building fires and 79 deliberate fires in the ward.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service staff will be accompanied during the campaign by staff from other agencies including Help Direct, Pendle Council Operational Services and police community support officers.

Geoff Hudson, community fire safety practitioner for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “This campaign runs throughout the whole of June and follows the successful campaign we ran in the Southfield Ward last year.

“This month we are targeting Bradley as it is another ward with a higher than average number of incidents.

“We will be working with Pendle Council to make sure that all rubbish bins are emptied when they are full and with Lancashire Police to try to stop the high amount of deliberate fires in the ward.”
