A MYSTERY good Samaritan has been clearing rubbish from fields and shrubs along Bull Hill.

Now councillors in the Whitehall area of Darwen want to track the person down to say ‘thank you’.

Whitehall town councillor John East said the man had been seen climbing over the wall to bag up rubbish that had been fly-tipped in the area.

He then leaves the rubbish in bags by the side of the road which can be easily collected by council workers.

Coun East said he wanted to thank the mystery man and offer him a ‘community champion’ award.

He said: “We are so grateful to this man who seems to be doing this all over the Whitehall area.

“Debris gets thrown into the fields and hedgerows along Bull Hill and he goes in and bags the rubbish up. This is a real sign of an upturn in non-anti-social behaviour in the town.

“It is great to have a local resident who is a knight in shining armour.

“Now we just want to know who this man is so we can thank him and maybe even give him some sort of award.

“If he would rather stay anonymous, we would be happy to supply him with some equipment.”

Blackburn with Darwen executive member for environment Coun Jim Smith said: “Residents such as this gentleman are a fine example of the council’s Your Call campaign in action. I am sure there are many in the area who have benefited from his sterling efforts.

“I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to him on behalf of residents in the borough and let him know that his brilliant work isn’t going unnoticed.”

Whitehall councillor Kar- imeh Foster said: “It is this type of thing that has helped to make Whitehall one of the cleanest areas in Darwen. It fits in well with our Whitehall in Bloom competition, which launched recently and has done really well so far.”
