Great Harwood woman threw TV at her boyfriend

A WOMAN has admitted hitting her partner about the head with a portable television and tying its cord around his neck.

Preston Crown Court heard Joanne Dickinson hit out at her 32-year-old boyfriend after they had been drinking in her flat in Kipling Place, Great Harwood on August 27.

Prosecutors said the pair had been arguing before the late night Bank Holiday Monday attack.

Dickinson, 25, who was initially charged with attempted murder, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of section 18 wounding with intent, after picking up the television and striking her boyfriend several times around the head, the court heard.

Prosecutors said she then tied the chord of the Daewoo television around his neck.

Dickinson called for an ambulance shortly after 11.30pm.

Paramedics found him lying unconscious in a pool of blood on the bedroom floor, prosecutors said.

Police were then contacted by the ambulance service when the seriousness of the man’s injuries became clear, the court heard.

The victim, who was left with ‘several significant head injuries’ was taken by ambulance to the Royal Blackburn Hospital, police said. He is said to be recovering at home.

Dickinson changed her plea to guilty on Monday, on what would have been the first day of her trial.

She was remanded in to custody until her sentencing at Preston Crown Court on April 25.
