No horsemeat in our school dinners, Accrington parents told

AN ACCRINGTON school has assured parents and pupils that none of its school dinners had been identified as at risk of containing horse meat.

A message on St Christopher’s CE High School website said the school only used reputable suppliers who had confirmed they followed Food Standards Agency guidelines.

The message from the Queens Road West school said: “Given the recent national news regarding meat products, we wish to confirm that St Christopher’s purchases from only reputable suppliers.

“We have received written assurances that they do not use any of the products that have already been identified as at risk and that they are at all times following initial FSA Guidelines on sampling and testing of beef products and raw materials.”

I'd rather not eat meat at all. It's totally gross "horse meat" being supplied. What will it be next? Appalled!!!!!!

Despite being given repeated gurantees by suppliers to Bird's Eye in their frozen beef products, analysis showed it contained horse DNA.
Another firm Scoland Excel, which works with trhe councils, also confirmed horse DNA had been tested positive.

Written assurances do not go far enough. Only DNA analysis can be relied on as a gurantee. I note the article does not state gurantees in that aspect specifically, and I will continue to doubt until then.

Why all the fuss about horse meat? You don't bat an eyelid about being served halal meat!

Horse meat is perfectly good; leaner and cheaper than beef. A good way to reduce eating expenses.

Easier to digest 'halal' than meat served as scandalous.

That's not the point; you're being sold halal meat without knowing it, just like you are being sold horse meat unawares.

What is all the fuss about meat being Halal? As far as I can see it concerns the preparation method,.and as such certain conditions are imposed. The meat itself is exactly the same.

The horse meat is different in that certain drugs may have been used on a horse which may be harmful to humans. Anyone who has been to France will have eaten horsemeat.

If horsemeat was farmed as part of the normal food-chain for human consumption would it really matter?
