A CARER who was over the drink drive limit was told by Burnley magistrates the consequences could have been catastrophic — for himself or others.

The court heard Brent West, 44, gave a test which showed 53 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath after he was caught out on Blackburn Road, Haslingden, on January 5. the legal limit is 35.

The hearing was told the defendant had “no specific reason” to have got behind the wheel. West, of Princess Street, Haslingden, admitted driving with excess alcohol.

He was fined £110, with a £20 victim surcharge and £40 costs.

He was also banned from driving for a year.
