DOZENS of runners recovered from their festive feasts to take part in what is probably East Lancs’ most colourful athletic traditions.

Santa and his elf rubbed shoulders with The Three Kings and a couple of Jedward look-a-likes for the Whinberry Naze 2012 dash.

Promoted by Rossendale Harriers Athletic Club, it is usually guaranteed to provide a chilly Boxing Day wake-up call to hardy runners.

Darwen Dashers came dressed up in honour of the children’s favourite ‘Where’s Wally?’ and there was a collection of superheroes and fairies on hand to add to the spectacle.

The race is run over 3.43 miles, setting off from Cloughfold, near Rawtenstall, and involves a 853 foot climb and athletes usually complete the course in around an hour.
