A MAIN road leading into Accrington town centre was closed over-night after an incident which led to a 21-year-old man being taken to hospital with head injuries.
Police were called to Blackburn Road at 11.45pm, on Tuesday, after a report from the ambulance service that a 21-year-old man had been assaulted.
The main road into the town was closed for several hours, causing traffic delays early yesterday morning.
Closures, between School Street and Paxton Street, were put in place to allow officers the chance to collect evidence, including blood, from the crime scene.
The road was reopened at 7.30am yesterday. The victim, who was suffering from head injuries following the incident near Accrington Railway Station, was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment.
Detective Sergeant Ian Proctor said: “Fortunately, the victim is expected to make a full recovery. I would urge anyone who saw any of the incident to get in touch with us, or to call Crimestoppers.”
The victim’s injuries are not thought to be too serious, but he is still in hospital.
Police yesterday arrested a 31-year-old man, from Accrington, on suspicion of section 18 assault and he is currently in custody.
