Blackburn's official Christmas lights concert this evening has been cancelled because of bad weather - but it is hoped the official lights switch-on will still go ahead as planned
High winds and heavy rain have meant that Blackburn with Darwen Council has been forced to cancel the musical performances. Local bands had been set to perform.
A spokesman for the council said: “The music is not taking place but the lights and fireworks at the moment are still go.
“All round the country, councils are cancelling Christmas lights switch ons because of the weather.
“We are going to press ahead but with some changes to the programme.”
Organisers plan to attempt the Christmas lights switch-on and fireworks display if weather permits.
Rock FM presenters Hywel & Jamie will still be at Town Hall Square 5.30pm to 7pm, plus Spongebob and Dora the Explorer will be in the Mall from 7.30pm.

On the other hand I am sure Bob Carolgees or last weeks reject from the Xfactor or whoever is turning them on will be very disappointed.

I have to ask though as Spongebob and Dora are predominately for children aged 3 = 5 what would children that age would be out after 7:30 on Thursday night? It just doesn't make sense
