Blackburn school's plea to turn in vandals

ANGER Head teacher Hillary Hinchliff in front of the latest damage
A PRIMARY school in Blackburn is urging people to ‘shop’ vandals who have smashed up its main entrance.
Since the £7million St Silas Primary School reopened in Clematis Street in April, a piece of toughened, double glazed glass measuring 10ft by 5ft, has been smashed four times.
The latest incident happened overnight between 6pm Tuesday and 7.50am on Wednesday.
Sam Patel, school business manager, said: “This is the fourth time it’s happened and it’s very frustrating.
“We are worried about the safety of our children and the residents walking past broken glass.
“It’s a big piece of glass and we believe that it’s taken some force to break. In the past, the police have told us it’s been done with a metal bolt and it’s likely to be someone stood on the road, or driving past in a car.
“It costs £500 to replace the window each time, and so that’s now a total of £2,000.
“The money we are spending on repairing damage could be put to some better use.
“We want any of the local residents who might have seen something to contact the police.”
The damage has not affected the running of the school, which is looking at improving security at the entrance.
PCSO Matt Mason, of the Corporation Park and Revidge Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Because this is a new school, the windows are very expensive and it’s causing problems at the school.
“This is repeated damage and at the moment an investigation is still under way as to whether it is the same offender responsible.
“I would appeal for any of the local residents to pop into the school with any information they may have on this crime.”

If I was the head I wouldve used wood rather then expensive glass £5.00 instead of £500
Look at the the other buildings like college they made of wood and painted

And are you really suggesting the main design consideration for primary schools is their vulnerability to attack? Steel shutters and iron gates next?

PCSO.........and the problem ends here!
We need Police officers and courts taking action, not PCSO's and Community leaders making "comments"
Parents need to accept responsibility and schools need to stop cuddling kids and start installing discipline.... Camerons Big society... LOL ..Joke

ghanto wrote:It's unfair to classify an area rough just because youths of some community decide to vandalise school property, and probably a vandetta against the school, and overall crime results fairs better than other wards within Blackburn. Probably your experience in the Audley area is resorting you to comment as you do!
NIGHTMARE OBVIOUSLY
rough area

£2k should get 'em a nice bit of kit for that entrance. Full HD, low light capability etc
Personally, I'd be on the lookout for a driveby glazier scam.
At least it's not PFI. £500 wouldn't buy you a Lego window.....
