EAST Lancashire’s theatrical societies are bound for Pantoland in this new year.

A host of family-friendly productions are planned in for local theatres and church halls across the region.

Starting the season is The Sleeping Beauty by Greenbrook Pantomime Society which runs until Saturday.

The classic fairy story is being staged at Greenbrook Methodist Hall, Burnley, with performances at 7.15pm.

Produced by local performer Edward Munday, the show promises a traditional show for all the family. It opened with an invited audience on Saturday.

From the weekend, there are two productions of Jack And The Beanstalk taking to the stage.

Bacup Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society’s version of the tale launches the 120th anniversary year at the Royal Court Theatre, running from Friday, Janurary 11 to Sunday, January 13, and from Friday, January 18 to Sunday, January 20.

Gina Cole plays Jack, Michael Howarth returns as Dame Trot and Dawn-Marie Woodcock as The Fairy.

A BAODS spokesman said: “Bacup Amateurs promises a fun show, with the opening night family ticket at half price, £17, offering great value for money.”

Also climbing the beanstalk this winter are Burnley Pantomime Society – winners of the NODA North West award for best pantomime in 2011-2012 for last year’s production of Aladdin.

Their show runs from Friday, Janurary 11 to Sunday, January 13, and from Thursday, January 17 to Sunday, January 20, at various times.

The tale has been written by Alan P Frayn and produced by Martin Chadwick, with tickets costing £10 for adults and £8 for children.
