After 12 weeks we have finally reached the last show! Jayne and Chris opened the show skating to Bolero in a variation of the purple costumes they wore when they won the Olympic gold medal in Sarejevo in 1984. The routine incorporated aerial stunts using silks with skating and finished in the iconic pose with them both led on the ice.

This week the celebrities had to master the art of flying! This is always an exciting section of the series as there are many tales of them feeling sick or not knowing where they are going! With only two couples allowed to skate Bolero they had to be extremely good in their routines.

So with expectations of an exciting final show to the competition the first couple took to the ice!

Kieron Richardson and Brianne
Music: One Day Like This – Elbow
I thought Kieron did a good job on the wires. The music was great but as he was concentrating so much on the wires I felt that he didn’t perform to it, rather it was just some noise in the background! He didn’t make any obvious mistakes and seemed confident with the moves that he did. It was Kieron’s highest score to date and I think that reflected the confidence that he now has on the ice. I think he could have extended his positions slightly more and made the movements smoother when he returned to the ice but that’s just me being picky!

Hayley Tamaddon and Daniel
Music: Songbird – Eva Cassidy
Hayley really performed well with all the positions on the ice and in the air finished off and turned out. Her and Dan’s new lift creation – the 'tandem skydive' – where Dan lay on Hayley’s back and they moved down the ice was really great. Two sixes from the judges was well deserved as it looked effortless and also the interaction between Dan and Hayley wasn’t lost in the concentration of using the wires which enhanced the performance.

With the first skates over the celebrities had the chance to perform their favourite routine from the series!

Gary Lucy and Maria
Music: Starman – David Bowie
Gary was great with the flying and playing the 'super hero' with the superman pose. He looked as though he loved performing it and the flying didn’t look like it fazed him at all. Watching the video before his skate I thought he might struggle as he hit some very strange poses but he really pulled it together and made it work. He had some slightly messy transitions between the flying and the returning to the ice but I really liked watching this routine. Jason was slightly derogatory about the skate again, but nothing new there!

Kieron Richardson and Brianne
Music: Ever Fallen in Love – Buzzcocks
I thought that out of all the routines Kieron has skated throughout the series this was the most entertaining! With the fast-paced music and punk rocker style it gave him the most potential to perform and he really did! Kieron’s skating has really improved over the course of the series with him being more confident skating alone without the help of Brianne. Apart from Kieron biting his tongue and making it bleed the routine went by without major incident! A score of 24.5 was well deserved as he really attacked the performance.

Hayley Tamaddon and Daniel
Music: Jai Ho – Pussycat Dolls
Before they came out of the tunnel I had a feeling that this would be the music that they chose to skate to again as this was their strongest performance of the series gaining maximum marks of 30. Hayley was once again sharp and precise throughout the routine with the lifts finished off, the arm movements perfectly in sync with Dan’s and also with the music. Hayley has great musicality and interprets the theme of the routine so, so well. It could have tripped her up using this, as any mistake could have cost them but the risk paid off and it was great to watch.

Gary Lucy and Maria
Music: What About Now – Westlife
Gary really skates with confidence when alone and also when lifting Maria and that’s what I really like about him. He attacks it without fear and really tries hard. I thought that this was a good performance and he interacted with Maria really well, drawing the audience in. His basic skating was off the toes so it was smoother over the ice than I have previously seen. A total of 25 was very well earned and that was a higher mark than he received last time he skated to that particular piece of music. I love Gary’s comeback to Jason of: “There is no pleasing him over there so I’ve given up anyway!” Jason hit a new all time low with accusing Gary of playing the ‘kid’ card as Gary had said that he wanted to show his little girl he could do it – Jason really annoys me!!!

So with Gary’s second skate over it certainly wasn’t clear who would get to skate the Bolero.

Unfortunately for Kieron, Gary beat him right at the finish line and it was Gary and Maria and Hayley and Dan who got the chance to skate the Bolero.

I thought it was a nice touch that all the couples who had been previously voted out returned for the final section of the show and skated a small part of their favourite programme.

The Final Skate So it was time to skate the Bolero and Hayely and Dan were the first up. With the choreography having been left up to them the two programmes from Hayley and Gary were completely different with the only stipulation being that they started on their knees and finished in a laid out position on the ice.

Hayley skated this routine great and she acted it out really well. Her positions were all polished and the lifts looked really good.

Gary also pulled out a great performance with confident skating, strong lifts and interpretation.

So the moment had finally arrived and the winner of Dancing on Ice 2010 is... HAYLEY AND DAN!

It was a close call between these two couple but I definitely believe the right person won.

So that’s another series done and dusted, 12 weeks of watching people come, go and progress through their skating with some trips and stumbles along the way!
