Star of the Dutch Dancing on Ice and former British Figure Skating Champion, Blackburn's Dannielle Guppy gives her view on the latest Dancing on Ice series.

A great start to the show this week with Christopher Dean being reunited on the ice with Jayne Torvill. They do have a special magic when skating together which is great to watch!

So, onto the show and the required element for the celebrities this week was a ‘pairs spiral’. Normally a spiral has to have the leg which is in the air at a 90 degree angle (hip height) to the leg which is on the ice. For the show it was changed to the leg having to be higher than the knee of the standing leg – complicated I know but it has been changed to aide those who are less flexible than others!

So we are now down to 10 couples and the first up was Melinda and Fred.

Melinda Messenger and Fred
Music: Macarena – Los Del Rio: I really like Melinda but every time I look at her she really reminds me of the ice skating Barbie I had as a child – very beautiful but with stiff joints. Her legs extend really well but never all the way through to a pointed toe. Saying that, I thought the routine was fun, enjoyable to watch and her spiral was lovely. I have to say that I agree with Jason this week – SHOCK! – as he is correct in pointing out that a lift is a ‘two way thing’ and the girl has to support her own weight, otherwise it will not work.

Ray Quinn and Maria
Music: Smooth Criminal – Michael Jackson: This week had lots of tricks and the routine was packed with content but I wasn’t too keen on this week's skate from Ray. There is no denying that he is technically good and extremely able but there was a stumble and I think this affected his performance a little. It just didn’t look comfortable, but I hope he will come back stronger next week.

Zoe Salmon and Matt
Music: Hot and Cold – Katy Perry: The costume this week really showed off Zoe’s figure and her legs are so long! They have a nice extension although I was slightly disappointed with her spiral as she didn’t quite get to hip height and also the lack of knee bend. Despie that, the skating was fun, she looked like she was enjoying herself and the partnership really shows.

Ellery Hanley and Frankie
Music: With or Without You – U2: The show's muscle man really pulled it off this week with the drape lift! He was very stable and lifted Frankie with ease. I like Ellery but his basics tend to become a little hurried and scrappy so I would like to see him more in control of this and the big lifts next week.

Coleen Nolan and Stewart
Music: I’m in the Mood for Dancing – The Nolans: What a good choice of music! Coleen is great and her personality really comes across on the ice. Her spiral was fabulous and much, much better than I was expecting! She does rely on Stewart to assist her with her skating but Coleen is improving every week and she is great to watch.

Donal McIntyre and Florentine
Music: Everybody Needs Somebody – Blues Brothers: I thought this week’s routine was the best yet from Donal. Yes he fell, but he jumped straight up and got back into the skating immediately! The backwards Teapot into the Spiral was easy for him and the lifts were very strong. I loved how the audience drowned out Jason’s comments. Genius!

Michael Underwood and Melanie
Music: Kiss - Prince: Michael really showed his enjoyment whilst skating which is great to watch. The fall in rehearsal was tough, but it didn’t affect his performance as it could have done. Michael needed to know that the professional girls are made of tough stuff and mistakes do, unfortunately, happen. But the routine was nice and he looked in control of his basic skating which was a great improvement.

Roxanne Pallett and Daniel
Music: Sweet About Me – Gabriella Cilmi: I thought that Roxanne had really improved her skating compared to the other weeks. She is still very high in the knees but overall I can see that she has got better. The spiral was slightly wobbly, but the leg was pretty much at hip height. Overall, she did much better this week.

Todd Carty and Susie
Music: Every Breath You Take – Sting: As I say every week, Todd isn’t going to win the trophy for the “Worlds Best Skater” but his character shines on the ice and he would win the comedy award! I enjoy watching him as he loves to skate and he is enjoying himself every week. He shows that anyone at all can skate!

Jessica Taylor and Pavel
Music: Groove is in the Heart – Dee-Lite: Jessica stepped up her game this week and I loved it! The costumes really caught my eye and she performed the routine extremely well. A little trip at the beginning didn’t detract from the programme and she is now my favourite on the show!

The Skate-Off
And Todd survives another week! I know he is making better skaters leave but I can’t help but be happy that he survives another show!

This week it was a battle for the husband and wife professionals as Fred and Melanie went head to head with their celebrities.

For the first time I think we saw a skate-off performance which wasn’t worse than the first skate. Melinda was much more unstable in the second performance. The lift worked, but the lift is not an entire routine and I was disappointed.

Michael skated better and his routine contained more solo skating. I definitely do not agree with the judge’s decision to save Melinda. What Jason, Ruthie and Robin were watching or thinking I have no idea!

And so the end of another show and one which I think has had many disappointments from my point of view. I hope that next week it will pick up!
