BROKEN Witt Rebels frontman Danny Core is a man on a mission. As the band prepare to come to Clitheroe Grand on Sunday supporting King King, he’s fully focused on the job in hand.

“We’re not here to make up the numbers,” said Danny. “You’ve got to give an audience everything and that’s just what we do.

“We’re not there to look cool or have our five minutes of fame. For us it’s about longevity. If people take time out of their evening to watch us, you have to give them everything and make a lasting impression on them.”

The Birmingham-based outfit have already started to make an impression on the music industry. In October they were voted best rock act at the Unsigned Music Awards. That award was in part due to the three EPs the band have out out but also due to their full-on live performances.

“We’re not afraid to sweat,” said Danny. “You have got to graft for it. For us it’s about putting 100 per cent into every night. We’d play every night if we could.

“When we come up to a new venue like Clitheroe, our aim is to win over the crowd.

“We must engage with the fans and have that personal touch. We will be there at the merch table at the end of the gig to meet the fans because they are the people that keep us going.

“As a support band you have an awful lot of respect for the headliners but when you get on stage it is war. You’ve got to fight for every fan and you’ve got to keep them

“To do that you have got to be a cut above the rest and the best way to do that is live. There is nowhere to hide on stage.”

The Broken Witt Rebels sound is one which is difficult to pigeonhole.

“We find inspiration from very soulful stuff like Aretha Franklin or Motown but we also love Led Zeppelin and Big Country riffs,” said Danny. “As a result our songs are pretty diverse.”

Having picked up a best unsigned accolade, is the aim now for the band to become signed to a label?

“We have had a lot of label attention and we’re looking into it,” said Danny. “I’m hoping that we will be able to announce something very soon.”

As well as supporting King King, the band will also be heading out with Joanne Shaw Taylor in the new year.

“If we could get our own tour next year that would be phenomenal,” said Danny. “But we want a product there too We have three EPs but we are dying to make an album.

“We’ve been told you need about 16 songs to go into the studio with for an album. We reckon we have close to 25 new songs and we’re writing every day. We want to be spoilt for choice when it happens.”
