The festive period can have a funny effect on you.

Decisions you make are very often very different to what you would normally make — so late on Boxing Day night after a shift at Telegraph Towers it was perhaps to be expected that I would head off to a different takeaway rather than trying to rustle a meal up from the Christmas Day leftovers.

The usual suspects on Darwen Street were open and given the crowds of revellers milling about were largely unappealing so I decided that I fancied a change and kind of stumbled upon The Godfather, across from the main door to King George’s Hall.

It is a takeaway I have walked past many times but not visited before but it is now firmly on my kebab radar.

Ordering a doner with mayo, I handed over the seemingly obligatory £3.50 and waited the five minutes or so for the pitta bread to be warmed up.

The doner meat added and I was offered a choice of salad to go with it.

I declined and walked out into the streets on Blackburn with a pretty darn good kebab.

A doner will never win any Michelin stars but a decent one does just the job. It was job done.
