Review: LALA’S Manchester Road, Nelson

LALA’S Manchester Road, Nelson
GOING La La wouldn’t normally be classed as a good thing when said in East Lancashire.
Think of saying someone is away with the fairies or is a sandwich short of a picnic and you might get the idea.
So when one of the latest additions to Nelson’s takeaway track along Manchester Road opened up with the name Lala’s it did, I am not ashamed to say, raise a smile.
I paid Lala’s a visit on a mucky night in Nelson. It passed the double parked taxi test previously mentioned in this column - and there was a healthy queue of drivers waiting to be served.
I opted for the old staple of a large mixed grill kebab with all the trimmings - and the wait was quite entertaining as a screaming row between one of the drivers and one of the staff broke out.
This went on for some time and raised smiles and smirks among all – and I was quite happy as when my kebab came they threw in a complimentary portion of fried chicken strips as compensation for the wait.
And they were very nice too.
And the kebab, a red-hot offering of chicken, steak and that stripped kebab meat with peppers and onions wasn’t bad either, although the naan was a little chewy and the salad wasn’t the best.
But it was late on a Friday night and going Lala wasn’t a bad experience at all.
