Videogame body TIGA says it welcomes the introduction of the new iPad Mini – and says the 7.9 inch screen ensures developers will not have to worry about reconfiguring their games.
Apple unveiled the iPad Mini yesterday and revealed that it will retail at £269 when it is goes on sale on November 2 across the country, including outlets across Lancashire. It also said that apps designed to run on the iPad will work perfectly on the Mini.
TIGA says it is excited by the prospect of the iPad Mini when it is introduced on November 2 and it anticipates an increase in sales of its member's iPad existing and future titles.
This means developers who have produced games for the iPad will not have to tinker with their apps in order to fit the new screen. They will be able to take advantage of the inevitable spike of sales of the iPad and iPad Mini this Christmas when their games will be available to more people than ever before.
The much-anticipated iPad Mini and the plethora of other tablets such as the Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire will create a healthy tablet market. A TIGA survey showed that 45 per cent of game developers are producing titles for the iPad so their games will reach more people than ever before.
Dr Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, said: “We are very excited about the iPad Mini. News it was coming was no surprise given the amount of talk about it over the last few weeks but it is a great format that appeals to a wide range of customers. It was great to see that Apple had chosen a 7.9 inch screen rather than a 9.7 inch which will mean iPad apps run perfectly well on the smaller iPad Mini screen.
“Tablet computers are incredibly popular and will continue to be so for some time to come. This Christmas will see an explosion of such devices being sold. This is great news for games developers because tablets are becoming one of the strongest gaming platforms, offering players a host of incredible games on great sized screens.”
