Most divorces incur blazing acrimony. It’s almost rendered standard behaviour.

But couples very often cite the most ludicrous behaviour as the reasons for divorce.

An Indian man has been told by the Indian High Court that he cannot divorce his wife after he complained to the judge that she had gained excessive weight after their marriage.

What kind of man wants a divorce because his wife has become a little pudgy?

The man stated: “Due to overweight respondent had black skin near sex organ and signs of injury. I was shocked to see the physical condition of respondent and could not perform sexual relations with her voluntarily.”

What a charmer. Although this is certainly not the first time something so innocuous has been used as grounds for divorce.

A woman in Kuwait made the headlines after she filed for divorce from her husband because he insisted on 'squeezing the toothpaste tube from the middle.'

One family friend moved out after his wife forbade him from eating salty cashew nuts.

Another friend revealed that her husband left her because she visited her parents too often. Despite these sombre anecdotes, marriage is reportedly back in fashion.

According to the Office for National Statistics, more than 260,000 marriages took place in 2012 in the UK, an increase of 5.3% on the previous year.

Marriages are shown to have increased in those over the age of 65 in England and Wales.

Marriage the second time around often allows couples to be far more pragmatic in their approach, rather than being blinded by romantic notions.

And, of course, there’s the beauty of hindsight.

As depicted by the following matrimonial ad: “Looking for an easy-going husband. Preferably his family should not live in the same city as him. I am divorced, no children. Reasons for divorce: my in-laws did not let me wear jeans and watch Bollywood movies at home.”

Anyone?
