A Ramadan safety roadshow has been urging families to take extra care during the month of Ramadan.

The roadshow was organised by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and they have been showcasing the work they do around ‘loose clothing’, ‘Cooking Safely’ and ‘Road Safety’.

The campaign aimed to raise awareness of fire safety during Ramadan, a time when there is an apparent increase in fire-related incidents in Muslim homes.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has been delivering a number of presentations and demonstrations on fire safety at several venues.

Topics covered have included cooking related fires, electrical fires and a campaign on loose clothing catching fire.

Rubina Bhatti from the fire service said: “We continue to provide members of the community with free advice on how to be safe and avoid injury or worse during Ramadan.

“Incidents are more common during Ramadan due to the increase in cooking at home, cooking during twilight hours and people losing their concentration due to fatigue. We advise people to be extra vigilant during Ramadan and would like to reinforce these safety messages and advice all members of the public to be safe.

“We would like households to seek advice and guidance from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and we provide free home fire safety checks and smoke alarms where appropriate.”

Rubina added: “We would like everyone to enjoy the celebrations which take place during Eid but we want members of the public to remember to always drive safety and not to put themselves at risk by driving too fast, not wearing seat belts and avoid distracting the driver whilst on the road.”
