Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan is back in the ghostly Bhoothnath Returns.

Amitabh’s screen appearances have dwindled in recent years and he remains in many respects in semi-retirement.

He has guest starred in some big movies of late but here he reprises a role that he seemingly enjoys playing.

Bhoothnath Returns is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Kishan Kumar, Renu Ravi Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan, and distributed internationally by B4U.

The film takes Bhoothnath’s story forward as the paranormal character returns to ‘Bhoot World’, where he is greeted with taunts and condemnation from the other ghosts for bringing disrepute to the ghost-community for getting bullied by a kid on Earth.

Post humiliation, Bhoothnath (Amitabh Bachchan) decides to redeem himself by returning to Earth to seek vengeance by scaring a bunch of kids.

His search leads him to Akhrot (Parth Bhalerao), a kid from the slums who happens to be the only person who can actually see him.

They agree to help each other but their friendship embroils them in a cause bigger than they had ever imagined.

To move ahead, they will need to take on one of the country’s most powerful and corrupt politicians, Bhau (comedy kingpin Boman Irani). And there are special appearances from Shahrukh Khan and poster pin-up Ranbir Kapoor.

In the movie Amitabh collaborates with rap singer Lucky Singh.

“I had heard a lot about Yo Yo Honey Singh and also about his music,” said the actor, who plays a ghost (bhoot) in ‘Bhoothnath Returns’.

“I loved his music and songs when I heard them.

“When Bhushan Kumar-ji told me to have such a song with Honey Singh, I agreed. It is very tough to do such things (a song with high energy) at my age.

“Since it is a very beautiful song and beautifully conceived, I thought that I should do it.”

And despite concerns for his health he posted, “Health issues shall always remain - we are perishable entities, are we not? ... but for the moment the one that had jolted me recently has been taken care of ... sufficiently taken care of, to enable me to start gyming again ... felt good after a two-hour session.”

n Bhootnath Returns is out on April 11.
