BLACKBURN Drama Club’s season comes to a close this week with the Stan Barstow and Alfred Bradley play Stringer’s Last Stand.

A hornets’ nest is stirred up when domineering father Luther Stringer’s eldest daughter finds something unexpected in his pocket.

His daughters, one married, one engaged and one a student, react instantly and their vengeance is terrible - shaking up the Yorkshire household.

Director Dorothy Perkins is celebrating her 60th season with Blackburn Drama Club, making her first appearance in 1952 – serving teas in the YMCA theatre.

It wasn’t until 11 years later that she stepped on stage, to take part in BDC’s 1963 production of Billy Liar – joined by Muriel Eccles, who plays the mother in Stringer’s Last Stand.

Among her most memorable productions are Oh What A Lovely War, Brassed Off, Diary Of Anne Frank, Man For All Seasons, The Herbal Bed, Journeys End, and most recently Bedroom Farce. She has won several NODA awards for best direction over the years.

*Stringer’s Last Stand, Blackburn Drama Club, Thwaites Empire Theatre, tomorrow until Saturday, 7.30pm. Tickets cost £9 from 01254 685500.
