IT will be a sad week next week, when we must bid farewell forever to the shoutiest man on TV.

Yes Waking the Dead, that most most confusing, implausible, ridiculous and thoroughly compelling of drama series will be screened for the final time.

Next week’s two-parter will signal the end of the mysterious Cold Case department led by the psychotic Trevor Eve.

If ever a man needed a course in anger management then it’s his character DCI Boyd. At the first hint of a problem the eyebrows flare.

His interrogation techniques involve a lot of slamming his hands on the desk and repeating the same question at an ever-increasing volume.

The grand finale has been set up very nicely by this week’s two-parter.

After seeing a case ‘disappear’ due to the involvement of the mysterious spooks from counter terrorism, poor old Boyd is clearly beginning to question his motivation.

Add to that his gin-loving deputy who now regrets asking for him to be sacked and you can see it’s not going to be the happiest of endings.

Among possible solutions how about the Cold Case unit being closed down and Boyd getting a job with the Samaritans; Boyd going on the rampage and ending up being sectioned or, the most probable given the series’ bizarre storylines, Boyd spontaneously combusts mid interview.
