Compagnia D’Opera Di Milano brings Verdi’s popular opera La Traviata to Blackburn on April 29.

La Traviata, or more figuratively The Fallen Woman, tells of a Parisian courtesan who gives up her former life for her new admirer.

The drama of this great opera based on Dumas’ La Dame Aux Camelias centres on Violetta Valery who breaks society’s conventions for a life with nobleman Alfredo Germont.

But the arrangement threatens to bring scandal on Alfredo’s family and ruin his sister’s future.

Giorgio Germont, Alfredo’s stern father, discovers that Violetta’s love is truly noble, while Alfredo discovers too late the truth of her sacrifice.

The opera in three acts is one of the world’s most popular, and the cast will be announced before the beginning of the performance.

l La Traviata is at King George’s Hall, Blackburn on Thursday, April 29. Tickets from £14 (concessions £12).
