Benidorm returns for a third series with a one hour special — same people, same hotel, same scenario.
Yes, it’s still quite funny, and being called Benidorm it does have limited capacity in which to engineer a move, but surely they could at least try out a different hotel.
As usual it is quite funny in parts, but all a little bit obvious.
“My mind and body have been finely tuned,” Johnny Vegas’s character tells Mateo, the Spanish bar man.
“Finely chewed by what?”
asks Mateo in an all rather embarrassing Manuel from Fawlty Towers moment.
And there’s plenty more where that came from.
Sheridan Smith adds something new, but can such gags as “Another 10 minutes and you would have missed Madge’s big entrance” really warrant this third series?
Why do so many people watch it?
Probably because we all recognise a little bit of ourselves on holiday in Spain.
Well, I don’t, but you probably do.
