MILAN, Paris, Munich... legendary Manchester DJ Mr Scruff is heading to the bright lights of Europe next month, but not before he has climbed to the summit of Clitheroe Castle.

His Scruffiness makes his debut at the town's Grand Theatre tomorrow night, predicting an 'epic four-hour bash of beats and barminess.'

"I love the Ribble Valley, it has played such a big part in my life as a DJ, with my association with the Beat-Herder festival," said Scruff. "Somebody said it is an incredible view from the castle, so I'm going up there before tomorrow's show for a chill out."

The Guide caught up with Mr Scruff for a quick-fire breakfast time chat between the washing up and preparing his three-year old daughter Elsie her 8am bowl of cereal in the Scruff Towers kitchen.

So can your remember the first record you fell in love with?

"Probably the 'Complete Madness' album. It's the first album my mum bought me when I was ten.

"I was overjoyed – it was a gatefold sleeve, double album with all the photos of the band just having loads of fun – I suppose a little peek behind the scenes.

“That was massive for me,” added Scruff, who has featured his own spoof drawing of the Lancashire Telegraph in his promotion material for the gig. And how would you describe your record collection?

"I'm into everything from hip hop, reggae, ska, house and blues, Cuban stuff and Brazilian music. So in one word: varied.”
