WE spoke to members of the community and they told us what they thought makes a good neighbour...

Maureen Davenport, 47, from Blackburn said: “A good neighbour should be able to keep an eye on your house when you’re away. You should be able to trust them and it helps if you all get along.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

Martin Beeston, 28, from Liverpool said: “I think that community spirit is very important. Someone who is friendly, approachable and could be said to be a ‘people person’.”

Nathalie Pickering, 27, from Burnley said: “Someone who would be happy to give you some milk if you run out, and watch the house when you’re on holiday.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

Jack Cousins, 78, from Blackburn said: “I think being a good neighbour means getting involved in the community, mixing in and helping each other out.”

Paul Heyes, 47, from Blackburn said: “A good neighbour should keep noise levels to a minimum and respect other people. I have really good neighbours who often help me out in the garden.”

Seng Wai Lio, 24, from Accrington said: “A neighbour is somebody that you always feel happy to stop and have a chat with. My neighbours are great friends of mine and I think that is important. I leave a spare key with them when I go out."

Lancashire Telegraph:

Dawn Hailliday, 29, from Blackburn said: “A neighbour is a friend. Somebody who is only a door away when you need a chat. I love that I have a sense of security with them. I always get a text of phone call if somebody is trying to contact me but I am not in."

Adam Lancaster, 27, from Blackburn said: “I think that having a friendship with the people who live so close to you is important. I always knock on next door for a cup of sugar, and so do they. I like that."

Shawna Cooper, 19, Preston said: “I live in a student house so our bins are always heaving and my 75-year-old neighbour always comes and reminds us when they are due to go out. She does it for a few houses on the street, she’s lovely."

Lancashire Telegraph:

Pippa Wakefield, 22, from Burnley said: “My neighbours have become good friends of mine over the years. I think that this is because whenever I need a chat, they are always there. All neighbours should be like mine."
