EAST Lancashire’s most-deserving teachers, pupils and schools will be recognised at the Lancashire Telegraph Schools Awards tomorrow night.

Dozens of people, from pupils to head teachers, were nominated when the awards were launched for the second year running in the spring.

Teams of judges from across the community picked the most inspiring winners from across Pennine Lancashire during tricky judging sessions.

And the whole process culminates in a special event at Stanley House Hotel, Mellor tomorrow where the winners will receive their accolades.

Teachers, parents, governors, and family members were all quick to nominate the professionals and unsung heroes who they felt were going the extra mile to give children the best and most varied education possible.

This year, the judges decided to highly commend more than a dozen individuals as well as choose the 11 winners as the quality of the candidates was so strong.

This year’s winners include a PE teacher who has spent two years battling to get grants to improve his school’s sports facilities; an academy, which is having a fundamental impact on its local economy; and a six-year-old girl who is a shining example of the model primary school pupil.

Lancashire Telegraph editor Kevin Young said: “We’re proud to be staging the East Lancashire Schools Awards again.

“The judges had a very difficult task selecting the winners from a very strong field.

“The awards proved once again that we have more than our fair share of outstanding schools, teachers and pupils. I’m sure that we will hear some great stories of achievement at the awards evening.”
