Revellers attending tonight’s Diamond Jubilee concert should be able to leave their umbrellas at home - after forecasters predicted an end to the wet and wintry weather which marred yesterday’s festivities.

The gloomy skies are set to brighten for the star-studded Buckingham Palace extravaganza with dry and sunny conditions expected as the event gets under way at 7.30pm.

Experts said the weather will vastly improve as the day progresses following the downpours and cold winds that hit the capital during the river pageant.

Andy Ratcliffe, a forecaster at MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: “There will be some lingering rain in the capital early this morning but today’s weather should be much better than the dank, drizzly conditions which hampered yesterday’s celebrations.

”It will be a damp start but the rain should clear by around 10am to leave some bright spells and scattered showers.

”By the time the concert starts the rain should have totally cleared and there is a good chance it will be sunny.”

Guests will attend a Jubilee picnic in the Buckingham Palace Gardens before the concert - which is the headline event on the third day of the four-day celebration to mark the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.
