A CAKE fit for queen is a once-in-a-lifetime assignment for any confectioner.

And when Ann Durham was asked to create a four-tier delicacy for The Queen’s visit to Turf Moor, it naturally had to be iced claret and blue.

Ann, who has been in the trade for than more than 30 years, is delivering a chocolate and Irish cream delight, topped off by a crown.

The cake will serve as the dessert when Her Majesty is joined by the Duke of Edinburgh for lunch at the ground.

She said: “It’s not every day that you’re asked to make a cake for the Royal Family and I’ve put a lot of thought into what I’m going to do.”

Ann, of Britannia, near Bacup, trained as a pastry chef at the Normandie Hotel in Birtle, near Bury, and now works from home.
