LAST orders were called at the old Sett End pub, Blackburn, back in 1962, after more than 100 years.
A bright, new one, with the same name, was already preparing to open its doors just a couple of hundred yards away along Shadsworth Road.
But its passing was lamented by all its customers who complained that the modern pubs of the time, did not have the same cheerful and homely atmosphere. I reckon this place has been going for more than 100 years,” said Emma Pye, as licensee Jimmy Draper prepared to pull the last pint.
Indeed, even in the early sixties, the pub was, in fact, still lit by gas light and the only electric light in the place, over the dartboard, ran off a car battery!
