PROCESSIONS of witness were once a big day in the life of our churches.

Church societies and members would walk through the streets to mark their support for their chosen place of worship.

Everyone would wear their finery, with youngsters often carrying posies of flowers and the parade was often led by a young girl, who was chosen as queen.

In this photograph from our archives and dating back to the early 1960s, we feature the Sunday School Queen of Holy Trinity Church, Colne, 15-year-old Christine Stokes and her retinue.
