And as summer approached, a Telegraph advert urged women to take a look at the new Silhouette swimwear, which had a little X control.
The new Lugano design, an elastic batiste with adjustable shoulder straps, came in a wide range of colours, priced at 79/6.
For larger ladies the swimsuits came in either blue or black with white edging and cost 86/-.
Front panels of unique little X design helped support the tummy, yet allowed complete freedom.
Made in pool and sea tested fabrics, the costumes looked as lovely after your swim as before.
You could see the range alongside new bikinis and play suits at F Lewis, ladies’ outfitters, which had a shop in The Arcade in Blackburn.
