Bowyer: Rovers midfielder Taylor sets example

GARY Bowyer has urged all of his Blackburn Rovers squad to emulate the attitude of Chris Taylor – with competition for places again on the agenda next season.

Bowyer has cut down the size of his squad considerably since taking the helm at Ewood Park, as Rovers bid to fall in line with the incoming Financial Fair Play regulations.

Rovers had a staggering 61 players on their books at the end of last season but have since reduced their wage bill by moving on several high earners and trimming their squad to more manageable numbers.

Bowyer has put six more players – Leon Best, DJ Campbell, Dickson Etuhu, David Goodwillie, Alex Marrow and Jordan Slew - on the transfer list as he bids to cut his squad even further over the close season.

But the boss still wants competition for each spot in his starting line-up – wanting to bring in a right back, a centre back and a striker before the start of the new season.

He knows that means having players on his books who may grow disappointed at not featuring regularly, but Bowyer wants any such players to respond in the same way as midfield man Taylor.

The 27-year-old started only 14 league games after joining the club on a Bosman free transfer from Millwall last summer but impressed the manager with his dedication.

“You only have to look at someone like Chris Taylor who has not played enough and I understand that,” Bowyer said.

“He’s desperate to play but his attitude every day in training and on matchdays epitomises what we are trying to do 100 per cent.

“It’s not just been him, there have been several others who have been out of the team.

“But Chris really sticks in my mind because it shows the progress that we’ve made.

“He’s a benchmark for me.”

Well said LP.

61 players and an 8th place finish is nothing less than a disgrace.

How Bowyer is still in a job after such a shambles of a season is beyond me, but this is Blackburn Rovers after all.

I suspect a slow start will mean he'll be hounded out just like all the other no-mark tactically inept, non-managers of recent seasons. Who then to pick up the pieces amid the transfer embargo humiliation due in January?

Must be awful when you're forced to sell your better players and cannot offer them improved contracts or any prospect of a future in the top flight.

You can't have more than 11 players on the pitch at any given time and unless you are a top PL club you can't keep a large squad of top players happy.

61 players on the books is a woeful example of how bad it had actually got under the idiocy of the Kean and Shebby era's, thankfully they appear to be long gone, as do nearly 30 of the 61 players (taking into consideration the ins and outs) and apart from the 6 on the transfer list the squad is looking tighter and more manageable 32 (that includes the 6)

It will be interesting to see what affect this reduction has on the financial situation at this moment in time, because that is what we will be judged on under FFP, not on previous season's performances as some often quote.

Taylor is a good, solid pro, the type of squad player needed, he will always do a job for us.

Dave, you have just answered the troll, it's not the real LP, it's one of SC's myriad identities.

It is actually good to see you using words like "us", even though you don't have a bloody clue what you are talking about, yes, as he was trying to get the squad settled, raise the confidence of the players and fans his tactics were rightly described as dull and boring, I myself criticised him many times for it.

But since January all that changed, we became more open, played some decent football and scored loads of goals from all over the pitch.

You need to stop living in the past mate, it drags you down.

We HAD 61 players and Bowyer has cut that considerably, don't live in the past, he cannot be blamed for previous mis management, and the fool that thinks Cairney would be allowed to leave (even if he wanted to) for Wigan or Brighton well......just shows what he knows about football? NOTHING.
I cannot believe the negativity and bile that comes from some of you people.
That said Rovers don't need people like you we need to get behind the manager players and club and look forward to what could be a great and exciting season.

In the developed world we often take what are known as 'holidays'.

Perhaps this concept hasn't reached Shadsworth yet, given that the farthest you stumble from your one-bedroom flea-pit is the Spar for your fags and Pot Noodles.

Burnley are a Premier League club who find themselves £120million richer. Hence we have no no worries about retaining our key players, however for a mid-table Championship club under FFP sanctions its a completely different matter entirely.

I expect Rhodes to go as a certainty, Cairney possibly if a decent offer comes in from Wigan or Brighton, and also Hanley if someone is willing to take a gamble on his dodgy temperament. The rest will stay and continue to contributing to your losses given that you can't afford to free the Blackburn six.

FFP is limbering up for round one... ding ding.

Brighton are up **** creek without a paddle so I don't know where the idiot had got that from, Wigan? maybe, but they like everyone else are looking to offload players so it remains to be seen if there is any truth in that.

To be honest Wigan because they failed to go up Wigan aren't in a great position, they hung onto their PL players last season and are going to find it hard to raise the cash.

It's just the dingle knobhead trying to deflect attention for his own club's miserable summer in the market so far, apparently they have offered £1 million for a WBA fringe player I haven't heard of and the howls of derision from West Brom can be heard for miles.

Yet rumours regarding Ings and Dyche continue to circulate.

Amazing that even after their best season in living memory that Burnley's two 'main men' - Dyche and Ings - both are yet to commit themselves to the club for their glory season in the sun.

Even in the top division Burnley can't keep hold of their assets.

If Dyche receives a proper offer from a top flight club he will be off as soon as he can. He must be getting sick of it by now, especially when Burnley's war-chest can't even tempt West Brom to part with a bench warmer.
Ings is happy to run down his contract and force Burnley to sell him this summer or lose him for nowt next year. Wonder which option the Burnley board will chose?

Word down here is that Dyche is wanted by Saints. Also have heard he's being courted by WBA.As for Ings he's probably off to join his former teammate "the bricklayer" at QPR.

Bit short in defence but we know that.
Top heavy for midfielders .
Wouldn't argue with that but there are 8 players in the squad who have come through the ranks over the last couple of years, one who came back to the club last season and Mahoney as well.

Of the 6 on the transfer list I think Etuhu could have a decent role to play if we cant move him on, provided that we can keep him fit mentally and physically.

GB really has cleared an awful lot of expensive rubbish out of the club this season, with apologies to Peds, Dann and a couple of others of course.

Burnley, a PL club with Conference League aspirations and a fat cat board that are milking the club dry while they rip off their loyal fans for every penny they can get.

Norwich City are apparently wanting Leeds Ross McCormack and Blackburn Rovers Jordan Rhodes to replace current strikers Ricky Van Wolsfwinkel and Gary Hooper to form a new look Norwich frontline.

McCormack and Rhodes scored 53 goals between them this past season and Norwich will be hoping that they can continue their prolific form for them next season if they join the club.

It is thought that Hooper will leave for QPR or back to former club Celtic and Dutch forward Van Wolsfwinkel has been linked with several moves to Portugal.

The money made from both deals will likely be used to fund moves for the Scottish duo of Rhodes and McCormack."

61 players on the books and Bowyer brought in 21 of them. Just shows what Bowyer needed to do to achieve an 8th place finish. Cairney, Conway and Gestede were brought in on loan first to se what they could do before being signed permanently.

Poor old "Stevie". owd_nich set out a squad, which you denounced as one of the weakest in the Championship. There's a reason for that. It isn't the squad. 5 players on the transfer list and 2 who will be out of contract. But for FFP both those players would already have been re-signed. There are a few players missing O'Connell, Rochina and Varney(he's been promised he'll be signed). It's unlike you "stevie" to be slack in your research of all things Rovers.

Since the end of the season 16 have been released, 6 transfer listed, 2 reaching the end of their contracts, 5 returned to their clubs. 1 transferred and one on loan at Toronto MLS. That's a total of 31 players out. That leaves 30 in the squad as far as Bowyer is concerned, although he would like 4 of those 31 back.

It's never as simple as that though. If Bowyer gets the 4 back, lands his say half dozen targets, but fails to shift the 6 transfer listed, the squad would be 47 and that would complicate sending U21s out on loan for real league experience because they'd be up against 20 players who don't figure in the manager's plans.

Blackburn Rovers Football club cannot afford to have a potential of 47 players on the payroll. As much as one may want those 4 players back, they can not be afforded. Taylor the subject of this piece is a target of Oldham Athletic's

Taylor the subject of this piece is a target of Oldham Athletic's Richard Oakley

It doesn't seem to matter what the article has to say, the response from our dear neighbours never ceases to amuse me, and the fact that they are always first in with their comments can only mean they are waiting with bated breath to out do us real Rovers fans. It doesn't matter that they have won promotion and that we couldn't even manage to achieve a play off placing, they still have to make their noise heard irrespective of what the article has to say. I personally wouldn't know where to look for their forums etc, as quite frankly they just don't interest me in the slightest. I can only imagine they are jealous of our traditions, jealous of our history, jealous of our achievements, jealous, jealous, jealous, ha ha ha ha ha

Just posting my season ticket application once more for the 40th consecutive year...as my title says ROVESTILLIDIE.
Thought it said rovertillidie. Another illiterate no dad with no ambition.

Troy Deeney (Watford) will be a quality player in this level and he is a powerfull striker instead of Chriss Taylor.
