Corry will be brilliant for Rovers, says Bowyer

Lancashire Telegraph: Corry Evans Corry Evans

BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer is relishing the prospect of working with Corry Evans for a full season, insisting the midfielder will only get better.

Bowyer was fulsome in his praise of Evans after he produced his best performance since returning from a five-month injury lay-off in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Charlton Athletic.

The Northern Ireland midfielder’s all-action display proved beyond doubt he is now fully recovered from the ankle-ligament damage he suffered while playing for his country in October.

But Bowyer, left, believes the 23-year-old will only grow in influence and stature next season.

“Corry was the best player on the pitch on Saturday – and it’s as simple as that,” said Bowyer, who snapped up Evans from Hull City in August.

“He dominated the midfield and it was an outstanding performance from him.

“The timing of his injury and how it occurred, playing for Northern Ireland, was a massive blow for us and for the lad himself.

“But credit to him, he’s worked ever so hard with the medical team to get back and we are seeing what a good player he is.

“And he is only going to get better.”

Evans had just cemented his place in Rovers’ starting line-up when he was the victim of a late tackle from Israel’s Sheran Yeini in Northern Ireland’s World Cup qualifier in Tel Aviv on October 15.

The former Manchester United youngster did not play again for Bowyer’s in-form side until March 1 when he came on as a half-time substitute in the defeat at Bolton Wanderers.

But since then he has missed just two matches, helping Rovers go on an 11-game unbeaten run.

Evans said: “I missed a large chunk in the middle of the season but I’ve managed to get back.

Related links

“I was dying to get back and put a run of games together.

“I’m just enjoying my football again and it’s good to be picking up points.

“That’s what you’re in football for and it’s nice to be doing it.”

Another player who could have a big role to play at Rovers next season is Michael Keane.

Since signing on loan from Manchester United the 21-year-old defender has impressed at right-back and centre-back, as well as scoring three goals.

But it will not be until United have a new manager in place – having last week sacked David Moyes, who had watched Keane for Rovers – that Bowyer will be able to discover whether he can keep hold of Keane.

“The level of performances Michael has produced for us have been exceptional,” said Bowyer.

“But he’s a Manchester United player and at the end of the season he’s going to have to go back to Manchester United.

“So we’ll have to see what the situation is there first and foremost.”

What an excellent signing by Bowyer yet again. Along with Gestede, Cairney, Marshall, Spurr and Craig Conway, Bowyer certainly has an eye for talent at a bargain prices. OK he's made a mistake or two as all managers do but on the whole he's building a squad which should easily be good enough to do well in this division.

So why aren't they performing for him?

Why are you entering a third successive season outside the Premier League?

Could it be that Bowyers managerial skills are not up to scratch?

He's had a full season and in all honesty its been an abject failure on all fronts. How long will the fans tolerate a manager who cannot get he best out of a group of players that they believe should be challenging at the top end of the Championship?

Your parachute payments have now been halved and after the 2015 season they will cease entirely, its squeaky bum time for you lot.

As a six fingered sister lover I have to say I was surprised and delighted by this season but in all honesty it's too much, with too little, too soon. The best I can hope for is Dyche manages to get this lot to perform against te odds for another season though once he's made his mark he'll be gone and so will we.

Bowyer on the other hand seems to be playing the long game and is Blackburn through and through (whereas Dyche still lives down south?!). As above, all good signings and those that haven't worked haven't cost the club a lot.

To me, Rovers look solid again and I suspect that's why some of my 6 fingered brethren are still more concerned about knocking and trying to destabilise their rivals when they should be only thinking of next season. I suspect it's because deep down they know their luck can't last.

Billionaire owners?

Billionaire owners who are allowing you to run up debts of £60 million?

Something sounds slightly amiss there wouldn't you agree? I think you'll find the billionaire claim was based on rupee's.... 1 billion rupee's equates to £9.8 million.

In other words your "billionaire" owners haven't got a pot to p!ss in, hence your lowly position.

Not only that but the FFP rules state that the maximum your "billionaire" owners can contribute towards your losses is £5million of equity in the club. Oh dear.

Ah TurfMoorTom, FakeVilla, BubblePopFC, etc.

Nice of you to rejoin us. I imagine its been a harrowing few days for you no doubt, with firstly our promotion, and then your lot missing out on the play-off's. But I see you've finally managed to compose yourself enough to come back to have your ar5e handed to you once again..

So now you're pretending to be a Burnley fan again in order to get your desperate and jealous points across, isn't it a bit late to change sides again? And Sean Dyche actually lives in Clitheroe, so there's yet another item you can scratch off your wishlist.

So now you're saying "Rovers look solid"? Do they really? They didn't look that way when we beat you at Ewood Park in March? Or when they failed to beat League One Yeovil, again at home.

Let's just save a lot of backwards and forwards and summarise this season in just a few concise points shall we....

1. Burnley FC beat Blackburn Rovers.
2. Burnley FC prevented Blackburn Rovers from reaching the play-off's.
3. Burnley FC are a Premier League club.
4. Burnley FC are £120million richer
5. Blackburn Rovers are staying down forever.
6. Every single one of your desperate and needy attempts at finding a positive for Blackburn Rovers above Burnley has failed.

Spot on. And what I like about the players he has brought in is the mix of talents. I also believe that in addition to those bargains, Josh King has the ability to terrorise the opposition next year yet I remember cursing him at Carlisle in the League Cup at the start of this season. Bowyer can be to Rovers what Keith Hill (on the wall in the Fox and Hounds) is to Rochdale. He knows how to develop young players.

I have skipped over all that nonsense. I gather that those responses are from some irate no-dads desperately trying to defend their shambles of a football club by reaching way back into history to make themselves feel better. I've read it all before, "but Rovers won the FA cup in 1888", etc, etc.

Embarrassed for you.

Here's the thing though, Burnley FC have won the top division in English football on two occasions, and we have been promoted to the top flight on two occasions in recent years, and we have done it all without a massive financial investment, something Blackburn Rovers could never do.

Your last league win fair and square (without a massive financial investment) was in 1914, our last league win fair and square (without a massive financial investment) was in 1960.

But all that's in the past. Its where you are now that counts isn't it?

Burnley FC are PREMIER LEAGUE.

Blackburn Rovers are CHUMPIONSHIP, FIZZY POP LEAGUE, MICKEY MOUSE LEAGUE, and STAYING DOWN FOREVER!

Your last league win fair and square (without a massive financial investment) was in 2014 not 1960 you dimwit. Either way its history, memorable only for the fact that it makes the stat that you've beaten Rovers only once in 35 years.

Burnley FC is in Burnley. Enough said

I believe we came 2nd in 2014, as much as you were backing us to win the league!

By league win I mean the winning to top division in English football which was the point of the argument was it not?

Jesus wept, some of you no-dads are a bit dim aren't you.

We last won the league fair and square in 1960, you in 1914. Says it all.
