Burnley 5,000/1 for the Premier League title!

Burnley celebrate promotion on Monday

Burnley celebrate promotion on Monday

First published in Sport

FOOTBALL League sponsors Sky Bet make Burnley 9/1 to follow up their promotion from the Championship by finishing in the top half of the Premier League next season.

Sean Dyche’s side confirmed their return to the top flight with a 2-0 win over Wigan and the Clarets still hold hope of winning the league should Leicester slip up in their remaining games.

Sky Bet go 5/4 that Burnley stay in the Premier League next season, a feat which eluded them on their previous venture, but they are 4/7 to go straight back down.

They are 1/25 for a bottom half finish and for any Burnley fans carried away by the excitement of their return to the top flight there’s a 5,000/1 price available about them winning the title.

Sky Bet’s Head of Football Trading Paul Wiggins said: “Burnley have definitely been deserving of their return to the top flight and will certainly be looking to take some notable scalps when they return to the Premier League for the 2014/15 season.

“They have a passionate fan base that will no doubt be hoping to see their Premier League status last longer than the one season they managed last time round and we expect to see them well backed to stay in the division next year.”

5ooo / 1 that,s a bit stingy isn,t it ?,let,s all be realistic and say it how it is, l will wager any one on this medium that Burnley come back down next season for the simple reason football has changed and clubs like Burnley cannot compete with the bulk of the premiership clubs and will inevitably struggle to maintain their status, but on a neutral note l don,t want them to drop back down because Blackburn will be back in the premiership next season if not this year, but good luck anyway,,COYB,

All those 'facts' there make predicting things oh so easy, don't they, noddy?

Austin leaving made Burnley's plight so much worse and they were tied on for relegation. Then the injuries were going to take their toll making their early good form nothing more than a blip. Then they were going to have to face all the top teams and lose momentum eventually finding their equilibrium towards the foot of the table. Then Ings was definitely going to sign for a big club and Burnley would miss his firepower. Then Dyche was seen in discussions with Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forrest, QPR, Norwich, Newcastle, Uncle Tom Cobley and all and was off while the going was good.

Then Burnley would lose both games against a 'superior' Blackburn Rovers and would start to fall down the league faster than Didier Drogba in the penalty area.

That's how you were seeing things THIS SEASON so what makes you the Nostradamus you think you are now?

While your at it you want a bet on Rovers getting promoted this or next season ? Thought not.

The clarets will finish in the top half and dont rule out another night of European Football at Turfmoor.Any one can say what they like but the small town team are mighty as they were when I was young, they can all laugh but The Claret Flame burns brightly once more,as it did so very wonderfully in the Early 1960s when they were at their very best,Dych e has some of the same fire that Harry Potts had and we all know what happend under him.
