UNIVERSITY CENTRE at Blackburn College football team overcame their Burnley counterparts to celebrate a hat-trick of league titles.

It’s a huge achievement for UCBC who have come up against much bigger universities including the University of Salford, Keele and Bangor – and also faced old adversaries Burnley, in the form of University College of Football Business, in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Northern League.

UCBC defeated UCFB 4-2 in the ‘universities Lancashire derby’ to secure the championship.

UCBC have played seven games, won them all and have sealed the title with three games to spare making it their third league crown in five years – they have only been involved in the BUCS competition for six years.

Top scorer for UCBC is Isaac Kusaloka, who is studying BEng (Hons) Robotics & Mechatronics, validated by Lancaster University, and plays semi-professional football for AFC Fylde.

UCBC’s first team coach is James Mallett who is a final year degree student studying BSc (Hons) Community Coaching and Sports Development.

“We are very proud of the football team,” said Justine Walker, Course Leader for Sports Coaching and Performance. “We have come up against universities with a much bigger student base but our talent and passion have helped us win another trophy.”
