Burnley looking to loans to cover for injured ace Ings

Lancashire Telegraph: Danny Ings Danny Ings

BURNLEY are scouring the loan market to find cover for injured striker Danny Ings.

The 25-goal top scorer, who was crowned Championship player of the year at Sunday night’s Football League Awards, is set to undergo further tests this week on ankle ligament damage sustained against Birmingham City.

The England Under 21 international, whose 20th league goal secured a long-awaited victory over rivals Blackburn Rovers in the previous game, seems set to be sidelined for the remainder of March.

MORE TOP STORIES:

With a 10-point advantage over third-placed Derby County to protect going into the final 10 Championship games of the season, the Clarets are conscious of having sufficient cover if Ings’ absence stretches into April.

“He’s got a couple of tests in Leeds today (Monday) and Wednesday,” said Burnley’s co-chairman, John Banaszkiewicz, who was at the Football League ceremony in London.

“We hope for a good outcome, but in the interim we have to look for a replacement if it’s more serious or worse than expected.

“We are in the market for loans for cover, with not many games left to play.

“The manager and recruitment staff are really focusing on that before next week’s deadline.”

But Sean Dyche expects to face the same struggles he has encountered all season with regard to loan signings, with prospective targets struggling to find a way into a side that has been both consistent in results and selection.

“We’ve been looking all season and it still comes down to alignment,” said the Burnley boss.

“It’s the players as well. There are a few we’ve been in touch with but they look at the group and think ‘am I going to play?’ “You sign players, as with Ashley (Barnes), they’re part of the group, he’s willing to work every day to get his chance. You give someone a loan spell and they’re thinking ‘what have you brought me in for unless I’m playing?’ “There aren’t a lot in that group who look like they want to come out of the side.”

I hope we don't go penny pinching now, the board need to bring in a high profile striker!
Its worth the wages if it helps maintain automatic promotion, we're closer than ever, its now or never really.

Van Persie wants out at Utd, why not give him a call? Would do his confidence the world of good to play for a winning team.

Take Wigan,QPR,they are after loaning the best they can to get promotion.I personally don't agree with loans at all,but if the rules so allow, then use them to your advantage. What happens now if Vokes or Barnes get injured,or we get a couple of suspensions,Marney comes to mind.We need a proven striker and midfielder to help ensure the promised land is reached, and after all the intense hard work and wonderful results we've had so far, let's not spoil it now.Surely, if there would be a chance of a permanent transfer after the loan spell, then I'm sure there would be plenty of applicants;after all, if we do achieve our goal then the squad would need strengthening.

Before you and your clueless moronic mates start getting a semi on in your shellsuit bottoms about Danny Ings being injured, I just thought I would let you know just how many goals Ings has been for Burnley in our last six games - we got 13 goals by the following scorers:

Ings (1), Vokes (3), Arfield (2), Marney (2), Duff (1), Jones (1), Shackell (1), Treacey (1) and og (1) - this proves that we play as a TEAM and don;t rely on one player unlike Sadburn Rovers who in the same period have scored a paltry six goals - Rhodes (4) and Conway (2). - Pathetic and embarrassing for you - If Rhodes goes (And I hope we buy him next year) you are instantly relegated..

Oh dear, what a shame, never mind. This really shows the lack of strength and depth in the dingle squad. So much for the Austin millions being re-invested, talking of which QPR look to be ending their blip and will be hot on your tails.

10 points is hot? Granted could be 7 by the end of tonight, but still. Not exactly hot.

34 years is so, well, the last 34 years! No wins in five for the football rip-off club. EPL bought and aid for from a rich man's money - not the clubs. Screw it up for every one. How's the statue to Bill Fox coming along? What, there's not going to be one? Shame on you. So Rovers. So Division 1 pending. Enjoy the trip.
