PLAYER RATINGS: Blackburn Rovers v Bournemouth

First published in Sport

Key moment: Lewis Grabban’s fifth-minute miss – after it the life seemed to drain out of Rovers after a bright start.

Ref watch: David Webb turned down two big penalty appeals from the Cherries at the start of the second half.

PLAYER RATINGS

PAUL ROBINSON 7 Will have been disappointed with the winner but his saves kept Rovers in it long before then.

TODD KANE 5 Right-back failed to take his chance after being brought back into the side for Adam Henley.

GRANT HANLEY 6 Captain went off in the 75th minute with what is hoped is not a recurrence of his calf strain.

MICHAEL KEANE 6 Went closest for Rovers in the second half when he headed a Craig Conway corner wide.

TOMMY SPURR 5 The left-back failed to trouble the Cherries either with his crosses or his long throw-ins.

CRAIG CONWAY 7 Rovers’ best outfield player on show, he never stopped running and throwing balls into the box.

JASON LOWE 5 Impressive in the East Lancashire derby, the midfielder could exert no influence here.

CORRY EVANS 6 Made a vital second-half challenge when Ryan Fraser was bursting into the box.

LUKE VARNEY 5 Felt he was denied a goalscoring opportunity when he went down under a Simon Francis challenge.

Lancashire Telegraph:

RUDY GESTEDE 5 Worked hard but was given little opportunity to score on his return to the starting line-up.

JORDAN RHODES 5 Fired one shot straight at Lee Camp in the first half and headed a Craig Conway cross over late on.

Bowyer = 0
Failed entirely to change the complexion of the game
Took both strikers off the pitch and replaced them with midfielders
Didn't shout a single word from the touchline
Outclassed by Eddie Howe
Didn't take advantage of the high pressing game Bournemouth set up to play

Can't we get the mascot to sit in the dug out next game? At least the players could see someone on the touchline. I'd love to hear Gary's team talks..... yeahhhhhh... laddssss..... that was...... quite..... dissapointing.... i..... guess......

Personalityless Bowyer Out. You don't loose to Burnley and Bolton and then go and loose to Bournemouth at home and get away with it. I wouldn/t mind if we deserved a victory in 1/3 but we have been comprehensively outclassed by a mixture teams in this league.

Right back is a massive problem for us. Henley and kane are not good enough simple as. And when Cairney is out of the side where is our creativity coming from with Dunny sat on bench and Rochina on loan. Not to mention no pace in our side, we have a slow laboured look to our offensive play and are easy to defend against. I think even messi would struggle to score in our side. Playoffs not a chance a middle of table team.

you can make all the excuses you like for the last 2 results but the truth is we have simply not been good enough to trouble even the average teams all season,,we have a very disjointed team which cannot produce consistency and when you think of the 19 players brought in by Bowyer you would have thought we may have put together a side to make some sort of impact but when l look at the overall picture l only see failure by both the team and the manager,

oh dont start all this manager out sh1t again! yes we been poor this past few weeks but the guy has had to get a load of players out on big wages and bring in players on small wages i know he is to blame for a lot of our results this season but you lot are the same ones who was saying we needed an experienced manager all screaming for harry redknapp well he has done well with all the money they have spent hasn't he?

so who would you lot get in now instead of bowyer?

would you still be moaning bowyer out if we won our last 3 games? to me it is obvious we been missing cairney 1 of bowyers signings?

I don't want Bowyer out, nothing to gain now from that this season or even early next season, I just want him to stand up, be honest and at least give the impression he knows what he is doing with the players he puts on the pitch.

Clue - Jordan Rhodes does not like playing with his back to goal with a couple of gorillas ready to clatter him as he tries to control chest high balls fired at him from the back.

The players also have to take responsibility for last nights display because if any of them bar Conway is satisfied with their performance they shouldn't be professional sportsmen at any level.

Robinson 5 - responsible for most of the big hump upfield tactics, distribution either poor or pointless
Kane 5 - better option than Henley but in and out of the game.
Hanley 5 - without him it could have been much worse.
Keane 5 - looks a decent player but must be wondering what he has let himself in for.
Spurr 6 - supported Conway quite well
Conway 8 - without him we wouldn't have had any attacking options at all.
Lowe 4 - I like him, I think he gets a lot of unfair stick but last night was a game to forget for him.
Evans 5 - off the pace which isn't a surprise seeing the time he has been out.
Varney 5 - plenty of effort but no finished product.
Gestede 5 - more effective than Rhodes with hump and hope tactics, I would have kept him on and taken Rhodes off until we decided to play some football.
Rhodes 5 - Never had a chance with the tactics, one of the best strikers in this league is being totally wasted.
Bowyer 0 - can't keep making excuses for him, all clubs struggle with injuries and loss of form at some point but they find ways of coping, too reliant on defending deep and hoping for a lucky break.

Would you have said the same about Sean Dyche when he first started? Sean was given time and look what he has achieved for the Dingles this season.

As for Gary Bowyer, he was thrust into managing a turmoil and I salute him for picking up the pieces and stabilising Rovers as he is someone who also genuinely loves the club. What is greatly lacking is consistency this season and if Rovers play very well like what they have done for a limited few games, they would have been in the top six by now. The other thing is tactics which I hope that GB will learn from his mistakes.

I have returned to the South Coast tonight, having been very disappointed with two losses on the trot at Ewood. Rovers were simply dreadful against Bournemouth and I hope that GB will work much harder on this - if this continues, Rovers will slide down the table and may face another relegation battle which Rovers fans do not want!
