Loo roll firm to build own paper mill in Blackburn

Lancashire Telegraph: MAJID HUSSAIN MAJID HUSSAIN

ONE of East Lancashire’s fastest-growing manufacturers has announced plans to build its own paper mill in Blackburn.

Award-winning toilet roll maker, Accrol Papers, which has its base on the Roman Road Industrial Estate, in Davy Field Road, has just revealed a £66 million deal with private equity firm NorthEdge Capital, that could lead to the creation of hundreds of jobs.

Commercial director Tim Bullough said: “This will accelerate all our plans, one of which is a paper mill.

“We would be looking to locate the paper mill as close to our present location as possible.

“The project would create well in excess of 100 jobs.”

Chief executive office, Majid Hussain said: “The investment from NorthEdge follows a sustained period of growth for the business during the last five years.

“The capital will allow us to accelerate capital expenditure to increase output and ensure that we continue to deliver the highest quality products and services to our customers.” The business, founded in 2003 and established by the Hussain brothers, employs 300 staff and has a turnover of more than £100 million annually.

One of Europe’s largest independent converters of soft tissue products, the business has a manufacturing capacity in excess of 80,000 tonnes per annum.

It manufactures a wide range of household and away-from-home tissue products for a range of leading retailers and service providers.

Partner at NorthEdge Capital, Dan Wright, said: “NorthEdge works exclusively with successful companies and ambitious management teams based in the North of England, and Accrol is no exception; a fast growing business with a significant share of the UK market and an impressive customer base.”

Accroll has, for years, undervalued it's bottom of the pile staff, by paying low wages, without ever enhanced pay beyond the normal working hours.
It is, in short, making Millions, on the backs of others.
Fact: whether you do 36 o=or 72 hours, your pay rate remains the same!
They make Millions on the back of virtual sweat-shop labour.
...
I've worked for this firm, 3 times, and all occasions seen things that remind me of the malpractices of a Victorian attitude to labour.
They blatantly ignore the Working Time Directive on working hours.
Health and Safety is ignored, when it suits them.
...
Fact..
I was sent, alone, to work in their Shadsworth warehouse, with my 'supervisor' turning up later, (I started at 7, he turned up at Midnight) only to sleep the whole part of the shift, in a car borrowed from another agency worker.
Fact..
I used to work with one of their staff, whom I knew to have no fork lift licence, yet had a job, as a supervisor on a fork lifts. He stated to me that, because he had worked at the now closed White Arrow, they couldn't check out his qualifications.
Fact..
One 'supervisor checks out all the fork lift trucks before you start, to fulfill the HSE requirements, without ever stating whom is driving them, experienced or not.
And, if you complain about the condition of your truck...they assert that it's been examined and passed.. and your services are no longer required..
In my opinion, as a qualified engineer, over 45 years experience, I wouldn't apply for a job here, ever.
Plain and simply, your life is at risk here, in their rush to become rich..

Whenever did anyone trust the words, gifted here, by anyone, ever?
They employ people, to craft a script.
Where truth is a distant land, from reality.
...
Sadly, many of them sign up to agencies,
where neither craft nor skill is either self-evident, nor checkable.
Where sub-sets of migrants, are told the script to gain employment.
Fact...
My friend, a prominent Polish government lawyer; posing as a migrant worker, with her English skills, was proffered a job as Supervisor, with no experience of bakery, at all!
She does know where Stettin is, though...

It's not what you know, but the whom..

If the guy is making money, fair play to him, thats business. The objective of any business is to make a profit. If people don't like it they can work elsewhere.
