THIS is the first look at the research and development hub which will form the centrepiece of Burnley’s newly-named multi-million pound ‘Vision Park’.

Borough leaders were in Manchester earlier today to launch the advanced manu-facturing venture which will be a near neighbour of the Burnley College and UCLan campus.

Like-minded tenants will be sought for the ‘innovation centre’ which will form the first phase of the ambitious proposals, on land which once housed the town’s refuse and recycling centre.

Bridgewater Hall was chosen as the prestige venue to unveil the five-acre development, which will be incorporated into the ‘Knowledge Quarter’ off Princess Way.

Steve Rumbelow, the borough council’s chief executive, said: “Vision Park will provide a unique offer to advanced manufacturing and digital industries that can connect to the unrivalled manufacturing and robotic technologies in the adjacent education campus.

“Burnley is becoming a regionally significant centre for advanced manufacturing and we are creating modern business environments to attract growing business in this sector, which will benefit from being based among firms at the forefront of advanced manufacturing.”

Close links are expected with the Centre of Engineering Excellence which has recently been given the go-ahead for the nearby college.

Council leader Coun Mark Townsend said that the authority was ‘excited’ to be linking up with partners Trebor Developments, a company responsible for several other ‘niche’ business parks in the UK.

Bob Tattrie, Trebor’s managing partner, said that the first phase would offer units from 500 to 10,000 square feet, ‘allowing occupiers the opportunity to thrive in a high-quality working environment with like-minded businesses’.

Council chiefs are hopeful that the Vision Park will dovetail with other regeneration efforts at Burnley Bridge Business Park and the aerospace village on the former Michelin site.

I hope us in COLNE do not have to foot the bill
For this?
By this I mean cuts to our service because of back
Door deal done here and in government we will be
Watching this now here in COLNE and keeping an eye
On our funds to make sure NO money from COLNE
GO ON THIS PROJECT? No council tax rises for this
Get your rich mate in private businesses and in parliament to pay.
And also keep an eye on our council tax to see if it goes up again
This year?
I WILL KEEP WATCHING OUR LOCAL COUNTY COUNCILORS
THE LIB DEMS IN WATERSIDE AND IF ANY OF OUR MONEY
GO ON THIS PROJECT THEY WILL HAVE TO EXPLAIN WHY
TO US ALL IN COLNE.
Our counsellors are selling property all over colne NOW is it for this
Project or for COLNE or just to send it back to the government as they are telling all
Their members to find a big pot of money for the election in 2015
So they can out do LABOUR? AT what cost to us nobody know yet
WE are watching you all county councillors here in colne and
Pendle for cut in services and putting up the council tax here

What are you on about. Burnley isn`t in Pendle, so why all the fuss over your council tax in Pendle going up. If the vision park was being built in the grounds of Nelson & Colne college, then possibly you could have the cause to be concerned.

Kevin, Colne says...

I hope that this business park is a resounding success. Anyone familiar with the town is well versed in the problems of Burnley, and the town has plenty; but sometimes it is worth looking at the many positive developments that are taking place.

New bus station, new railway station, direct rail service to Manchester on the horizon, owners of Charter Walk Shopping Centre investing heavily in reconfiguring units and trying very hard to maintain occupancy levels, football university progressing well and converting redundant office space in the centre of town - for which there is no demand - into residential halls of residence, new college building with UCLAN Centre, redevelopment of the Weavers Triangle ...

This is in no way to deny or diminish the problems in the town, but a lot of things seem now to be dropping into place. Top marks to councillors of all parties and none and various local and national agencies that have been working hard to help make Burnley a better place.
