Stolen car clue to East Lancashire council boss death
12:00pm Wednesday 11th June 2014 in News
THE manhunt for a driver who killed an East Lancashire council boss as he was cycling in France is continuing.
Police in Malaucène said they were still searching for the driver of the small Ford car two weeks after Steve Weaver, who was involved in setting up the Blackburn with Darwen unitary authority, was fatally wounded.
Commander Sébastien Roussignol, who is leading the investigation, said it had now been established that the vehicle was stolen.
He said: “We have still not identified the driver.
“We are continuing with the investigation, which is now taking a different route.
“We spoke with the owner of the car and they told us it had been stolen on the morning of the accident.”
Grandfather-of-three Mr Weaver, 64, suffered injuries to his head and torso.
He suffered a respiratory arrest at the scene.
Officers released an e-fit of the man they think could be responsible as part of their investigation.
A memorial service is due to be held to celebrate his life.
