CALLS for more parking on a busy Rishton street have been answered.

Residents in Stourton Street signed letters saying they were ‘seriously concerned’ an accident would happen if nothing was done about the lack of spaces.

The street is home to three county council sites, Norden High School, a sports centre, and the Primetime Centre.

One resident, Nigel Airey, 66, said: “The school has parking for teachers but not for other staff. Primetime has no parking, and the sports centre has little or no parking.

“We are talking about cars parking all day long on the residents’ side, and 98 per cent of these people are employed by Lancashire County Council.”

After a meeting between head teacher Tim Mitchell and Rishton councillor Ken Moss, it looks as though a solution has been found.

A council spokesman said: “Discussion were very productive. Mr Mitchell is now working with Rishton Area Council to alleviate the situation, and has allocated funding for the creation of up to 20 new parking bays on school grounds.

“Costings are being finalised and work is expected to start in the near future.”

An entirely new car park within the school grounds could also be on the horizon, although funding has yet to be secured.
