A CAMPAIGN group that champions older people in Burnley is hoping to attract more members.
Burnley Over-50s’ Forum plays a vital role in promoting older residents in the borough, said council leader Julie Cooper.
“We have a Government Minister for children but not for senior citizens; why not?” said Coun. Cooper. “It’s very important that their voices are heard, locally and at a national level.
“The Over-50s’ Forum can play a vital role in getting the views and concerns of older people across and I can assure them the council will listen. I will make it a priority.
“The forum can help shape council policy and services and play its part as an important voice for the older community.
“That’s why I attend its meetings and why I’d like to see more people getting involved and becoming members of the forum.”
Coun Betsy Stringer said: “I think this age group gets forgotten. Young people have their champions and are listened to but once you’re over a certain age your voice tends to get lost.
“Older people are so important to our society.”
