LANCASHIRE make a first return to Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club since 1999 when they face champions Nottinghamshire in the County Championship today.

The Red Rose are taking their Championship games on the road this summer as ongoing work, including rotating the square, at Old Trafford continues.

The majority of games are at Liverpool CC – but today’s game heads to Trafalgar Road and Lancashire also entertain Worcestershire at Blackpool next month.

Glen Chapple’s men go into the game in second place in the table following the dramatic win over Yorkshire at the weekend and coach Peter Moores has a full-strength squad to pick from for the 40th visit to the home of Southport and Birkdale.

They are five points behind leaders Durham with a game in hand – and will go to the top of the table if they collect bonus points.

Meanwhile, Steven Croft has received three penalty points for a a Level Two breach of the code of conduct for showing dissent during the Roses match.

The points stay on his record for two years and should be reach nine points he will face a ban.
