Australia captain Ricky Ponting has denied deliberately damaging a television after accepting a reprimand from the International Cricket Council following his dressing-room outburst.

Ponting reacted angrily after he was run out for 28 against Zimbabwe on Monday but insisted he did not lash out with his bat or any other equipment, and that the damage was accidental.

He was punished with a low-level sanction by the ICC, who acted after receiving a report from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

"I am not sure from where those stories have come from. I have accepted the ICC reprimanding me for the incident that happened the other night," said Ponting.

"Just to clarify that the television was not hit by me or my cricket bat at all, it was hit by my gloves/box while I tried to put in into my cricket kit.

"There was a small damage to the TV and it was reported to the team manager straight away."

When asked if such actions spoiled the dressing-room atmosphere, Ponting said: "There's a limit I guess, the dressing room is kind of a sacred place.

"There's a line you can't overstep like damaging equipment inside the change room and like I said I accept the responsibility for that happening."
