Jon Dahl Tomasson has remarkably revealed he offered to leave Blackburn Rovers in the summer for free.

The head coach's future was in doubt after the summer transfer budget was cut and Venky's were placed under investigation by the Indian government.

Tomasson has repeatedly spoken about how 'the project has changed' and how the club's financial issues have made things very difficult.

For the first time, the Rovers head coach has revealed he offered to walk away from Ewood Park in the summer but was asked to stay. He then moved his family over to Rovers and insists he is committed to the club.

"Last season, we played for play-offs without a senior striker in the most important games. Things changed in the summer. It was like a hand grenade, the budget changed.

"I told the club that it wasn't the project I signed up for. I told them that it was a different situation, not what I signed up for and I asked if they wanted to find another head coach for this project.

"We can terminate my contract, no problem, I don't want any money. This was in the summer, I said that to the club. It's a very difficult financial situation so that's what I said.

"It shouldn't be an issue with me, if they want to terminate it I didn't want money. I said if they needed to, when the project changed, a new head coach for the new project, I would go. They wanted me to stay.

"I moved my family over here and put all my energy into Rovers. It's a daily matter, my two kids and my wife are staying here. I think about Rovers 24 hours a day."

When asked if he was considering his future and was still committed to the club, he said: "I said in the summer they could terminate my contract with the financial situation.

"I didn't want money. It was a difficult time and the project changed totally. If they wanted a new manager at that time, I would've said 'ok I understand that'.

"They said no. I have been committed and working a lot of hours in a very difficult situation. This can't come as a surprise, a team that lost proven goal-scorers, experience and numbers at this level."
