Three games in a week against a trio of the division’s heavyweights on the return from an international break may well be a sense of deja vu for Rovers and their fans.

And because of that, games against Leeds United, Swansea City and West Brom should hold no fear, according to boss Tony Mowbray.

Mowbray believes on their day Rovers can be a match for anyone in the division, sitting 10th in the table ahead of games against two of the top four, and 11th placed Swansea.

Rovers picked up five points from matches against Aston Villa, Derby County and Stoke City last month, with Mowbray hoping his side can continue their encouraging start to the season, starting against Leeds tomorrow (12 noon).

“It’s a huge week for us but we’ve been here before, it’s not something we haven’t had to deal with this season,” Mowbray explained.

“We played Aston Villa, away to Derby then Stoke away as well, it’s a similar scenario, a really difficult game against a huge football club then two really tough away games against teams who were in the Premier League last season.

“Rather than fear it I think we should be really looking forward to it and testing ourselves to see how we get on against these teams with bigger squads, bigger budgets.

“So far this season we have done okay, and if teams don’t turn up on the day then we can beat anyone in this league. What we have to ensure is that we turn up in every game.

“We’re all looking forward to this weekend, a huge challenge, but one we should be looking forward to testing ourselves against a team who a lot of the football media are talking about ‘is this the year for Leeds United?”

Mowbray mixed up his side, making four changes, for the win at Bolton after a rare home defeat against Sheffield United.

And he admits there are selection headaches to address ahead of the meeting with Marcelo Bielsa’s men given Leeds’ impressive physical statistics.

“That has given me some selection issues to deal with,” he added.

“The head of sports science put on my desk a couple of days ago the physical stats of our game compared to them and theirs were the best in the league quite considerably.

“There’s the challenge for the team and every time you challenge this team they look to come up with the answer and have found the answers.

“Let’s see how we get on this weekend, we know how tough it’s going to be, that they have lots of good players and are a very athletic team.

“They have a coach who has managed some of the best teams in the world, but let’s look forward to this challenge.

“Mentality wise, let’s not fear it, let’s go and attack it, enjoy this and show how good we are.”
