A cricket tournament held in memory of two men who sadly died of cancer in the past year raised an astounding £2100.

The Taj Hussain and Mohammed Afzal memorial trophy was won by Nelson side Whitefield after a fantastic day of cricket.

Whitefield amassed a massive 120 runs from 6 overs in the final and despite a valiant effort surprise finalists could only manage 70.

Dilawar Hussain said, “We would like to thank everyone for turning out and showing their support throughout the day.

“We are especially thankful to the umpires and the volunteers who helped to put this tournament together.

“It was pleasing to see so many people watching the final games.”

Tasleem Fazal said, “On the behalf of my brothers Arshad, Naime and nephews Ansar and Muddasar and the family a very humble and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has taken their time out to remember our brother Mohammed Afzal and Taj.

“We hope everyone will continue to support and participate in keeping the memories of our dear brothers alive by way of this tournament in years to come.”

The tournament was co-organised by Naeem Fazal and Mohammed Rizwan.

Whitefield got to the final by nightriders whilst All stars overcame Gujrat CC.

Organisers would like to thank the Blackburn Mid-week Cricket League and the chairman Iqbal for arranging for the pitches. A huge thank you also to SDP Printers for their support.
