CONTROVERSIAL plans from Accrington Stanley Community trust to build a £2million sports hub will not be called in by the Secretary of State.
The proposals for Higham Playing Fields in Thorneyholme Road were passed by Hyndburn planning committee earlier this month.
A ‘Save Higham Playing Fields’ group had been set up against the plans and an online petition collected more than 1,000 signatures. A request had been made to refer the planning decision to the Secretary of State but they have now responded.
Lorraine Gamble, planning casework manager, said in a letter: “The Secretary of State has decided not to call in this application. He is content that it should be determined by the local planning authority.”
The hub will include a new multi-use community building, a full-size floodlit artificial football pitch, three renovated grass pitches, a new England Cricket Board-approved artificial cricket wicket and a 75-space car park.
